Welcome

dale62

 to our Group Family!

My name is Summer (Manager). Jeanette and Melanie are our Assistant Managers. We have another manager Melissa, who is on leave right now to finish her schooling but pops in from time to time.

I am only able to be online a couple of days each week as my health has been suffering recently. I do check my email as often as I can but when you post a note you will soon have a response. We have just completed rebuilding the group from the ground up and encourage members to post daily. Although we do not have any posting requirements, we like to hear from each member to know how they are doing and staying updated helps us be more supportive of one another. Please don’t be afraid to post, nobody will judge you and everyone here understands how you feel. Also, be sure to read and sign our “Rules” page.

If ever you wish to chat just email me privately or catch me on the “Open Mic“(our General Message board) and we can set up a time to chat. If you have any questions let us know and we will be happy to assist you.  If you are looking for information that we do not yet have posted in the archives, I or Jeanette can help you locate some.  If there is another medical category that you would like added let me know and I will check to see if we are able to.

Please head on over to the “Who Am I” board and let us all know a little more about you. We do not use a person’s real name unless they say it’s okay as your screen name is to ensure your privacy and we will use that so as not to disclose your identity in any way. We are a “G” rated and family friendly group so we watch our language as there are several youth that drop in and visit us. The youth boards are provided for the younger members to discuss but any member can post on any board. Some of our message boards are only able to be seen by registered members so we do have a private discussion area. Our chat room is open only to registered members right now but we are planning on scheduling visitor informational chats in the near future so you may wish to “Register” for the chat room now and then you can access the Chat room whenever you wish.  Just click the link on the registration page and follow the on screen prompts.  Should you need extra help with registration, just “Email” me and let me know what problem you are encountering.

Again, our warmest welcome to you dale62!

Fire and evacuations here again…

Posted by Summer under General, In the News

Again this year the forest nearby me is in the midst of a flaming rage.  Nearly 3000 acres are involved all around our house.  We have not been evacuated this time since its not extremely close to this neighborhood yet.  The last news report states that the fire is not contained.  There are 2 fires in this forest both of them have potential to come here as our neighborhood is surrounded by the forest.  The last one about 3 years ago happened while we were out of our house from our house fire. This one I am not sure if I would go to many great lengths to evacuate.  From what I can gather the fire was out of control when it started and still trying to contain it.

We’ve not been updated for over 2 hours now so its a sit and wait situation.  I will stay here until someone drags me out of bed I guess but I am not too gung ho on trying to find somewhere else to go and be able to tolerate.  Today is not a good day for me as the last week has been bad with numerous weather systems and changes happening just knocks me down.

I told the kids that we will take the computers and pets with us.  I’m not concerned about anything else really.  Will keep you posted.

Love, Summer

Good Morning

The Reflection

There were once two men, both seriously ill, in the same small room of a great hospital. Quite a small room, just large enough for the pair of them - two beds, two bedside lockers, a door opening on the hall, and one window looking out on the world.

One of the men, as part of his treatment, was allowed to sit up in bed for an hour in the afternoon, (something that had to do with draining the fluid from his lungs) and his bed was next to the window.

But the other man had to spend all his time flat on his back - and both of them had to be kept quiet and still. Which was the reason they were in the small room by themselves, and they were grateful for peace and privacy - none of the bustle and clatter and prying eyes of the general ward for them.

Of course, one of the disadvantages of their condition was that they weren’t allowed much to do: no reading, no radio, certainly no television - they just had to keep quiet and still, just the two of them.

They used to talk for hours and hours - about their wives, their children, their homes their former jobs, their hobbies, their childhood, what they did during the war, where they had been on vacations - all that sort of thing. Every afternoon, when the man in the bed next to the window was propped up for his hour, he would pass the time by describing what he could see outside. And the other man began to live for those hours.

The window apparently overlooked a park with a lake where there were ducks and swans, children throwing them bread and sailing model boats, and young lovers walking hand in hand beneath the trees. And there were flowers and stretches of grass and games of softball, people taking their ease in the sunshine, and right at the back, behind the fringe of the tress, a fine view of the city skyline.

The man on his back would listen to all of this, enjoying every minute how a child nearly fell into the lake, how beautiful the girls were in their summer dresses, and then an exciting ball game, or a boy playing with his puppy. It got to the place that he could almost see what was happening outside.

Then one fine afternoon, when there was some sort of parade, the thought struck him: Why should the man next to the window have all the pleasure of seeing what was going on? Why shouldn’t he get the chance?

He felt ashamed and tried not to think like that, but the more he tried, the worse he wanted to change. He’d do anything!

In a few days he had turned sour. He should be by the window. And he brooded and couldn’t sleep, and grew even more seriously ill - which none of the doctors understood.

One night, as he stared at the ceiling, the other man (the man next to the window) suddenly woke up coughing and choking, the fluid congesting in his lungs, his hands groping for the button that would bring the night nurse running. But the man continued to stare at the ceiling.

In the morning, the day nurse came in with water for their baths and found the other man dead. They took away his body, quietly, no fuss.

As soon as it seemed decent, the man asked if he could be moved to the bed next to the window. And they moved him, tucked him in, and made him quite comfortable, and left him alone to be quiet and still.

The minute they’d gone, he propped himself up on one elbow, painfully and labouriously, and looked out the window. It faced a blank wall.
